Russian President Vladimir Putin has accepted invitations to visit Thailand and Vietnam

China: Putin, facing international isolation due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court, has received invitations from both countries.

Thailand, not being a party to the ICC Rome Statute, has chosen to maintain its cooperation with Russia.

Vietnam, which has a longstanding relationship with Russia dating back to the Soviet Union era, invited Putin to visit Vietnam soon. Putin happily accepted the invitation, as announced on the government's website.

Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin extended an official invitation to Putin for a visit in the coming year during a meeting in Beijing. President Putin, known for his affinity for the Thai resort island of Phuket, accepted the invitation, although a specific date has yet to be determined.

Putin expressed concern about the decline in bilateral trade due to the challenging international situation, according to the TASS Russian news agency. Notably, over a million Russians have visited Thailand this year. Thailand has also extended visa arrangements for Russians, allowing visits of up to three months, an increase from the previous 30-day limit.

It's worth mentioning that Thailand, along with China and India, abstained from a UN General Assembly vote last year that condemned Russia's annexation of parts of Ukraine.

In discussions between President Thuong and Putin, the focus was on enhancing economic and trade cooperation. Russia remains a significant arms supplier to Vietnam.

These developments highlight the evolving international relations and diplomatic activities involving Russia in the Southeast Asian region.
